During our formative years, many of us had access to the old internet at a level of unchecked freedom that would give our parents nightmares, (if they knew). The old internet was the wild west, and for better or for worse the checks and balances it has now just didn't exist back then.
Morbid curiosity is a powerful thing, and many of you went to sites just like this one in the early 2000s to see things you shouldn't have. Congratulations, we're now all scarred for life.
We can't show you that stuff anymore, but we can show you a list of the most messed up things 20 people saw on the old internet, that they claim scarred them for life.

I wasn't a kid. 2 girls 1 cup. -
2.
Pain Olympics. Watched a gun suicide. Saw a hanging. Your pick! The Internet is a scary place. My mind's curiosity is its own poison. -
3.
That man with the jar. I should have never laid eyes on that in my entire existence! -
4.
A family was driving along a road when a brick comes flying through the windshield and practically decapitates the mother/wife in the passenger seat as the husband/father is driving and the kids are in the backseat, all witnessing her death. The dashcam picked up their screams and her husband crying out “oh my god, no.”
Fucking horrific and I don’t recommend looking for it though I understand the morbid curiosity.
I saw that video for the first time last year and i literally had to take a full force sprint through my neighborhood in the middle of the night to get my mind off of it. -
5.
I went on 4chan when I was like 13 and clicked a link to a livestream where a dude shot himself through the mouth with a crossbow using his feet to pull the trigger. He survived the first few minutes. Never went back to that site again. That’s when I learned I wasn’t an edge lord. -
6.
When I was a kid I was obsessed with horses. There was this website I used to visit that was for people who loved horses. One time I made the mistake of typing “.com” instead of “.net.” Horselovers.com was for people who really, really “loved” horses. Scarred for LIFE. -
7.
That Chechen guy captured while the enemy stands on his head with their boot. Then they stick a knife in his throat. The sound that he made will stick with me forever. -
8.
A cartel execution. It wasn't a simple beheading, there were like four or five cartel members hacking away at a lady for a good 30 seconds. The video was extremely blurry, (thank goodness), but what had shocked me the most were the screams. Idk what I was trying to prove. -
9.
The video of journalist James W. Foley getting beheaded by ISIS. -
10.
On Omegle in my early teens with my cousin, we came across someone who looked like they had hung themselves on camera! Still talk about it to this day, we were traumatized. -
11.
Seeing a guy who blew his face off with a shotgun on rotten.com was pretty messed up for 14-year- old me. -
12.
An old man had a heart attack in his hot tub and he lived alone. By the time someone came to check on him he was basically human soup. -
13.
The photos of Black Dahlia murdered. -
14.
“Dicks Sporting Goods didn't always own the domain dicks.com. I was 10 and just wanted a new bike.” -
15.
I was probably in high school by the time I saw it, but the R Budd Dwyer video did a number on me. -
16.
I was already a teen but I saw the unfiltered videos from the parkland shooting that very Valentine’s Day. I remember sitting with flowers and chocolates for my ex and came across it on Instagram. I rewatched that poor teacher bleeding out and dying until they took the video down. Now Reddit is my only form of social media. -
17.
I used Deviant Art from the ages of 12-14. I remember getting a note from someone who was threatening to send people "from the dark web" after me to kill and rape me and my family if I don't join a Skype video call with them. I just left it on read and hoped they weren't being for real. They weren't, but it scared the fuck out of me. -
18.
The Blowfly Girl and her blog. -
19.
Chat rooms. Some creep convinced 13 year old me he was Justin Timberlake. Looking back I'm so grateful my sister caught me before I sent any photos. Could've ended much worse. -
20.
It was an old ASPCA video about protecting animals and in it they showed graphic photos of animal abuse to really nail home the point. I was like ten and the image of a trash can filled with dead cats and kittens really messed me up and I sobbed for like an hour or so.
